This case study delves into the design of a Business Intelligence dashboard for JioPay, as a capstone project, part of 10kDesigners. I specifically designed the landing page of the dashboard for JioPay's Point Of Sale(POS) device users. These users were internal businesses operating under the umbrella of Jio.

Challenges

The primary challenges I encountered was simplifying complex transaction data from POS devices and to keep the interface as simple as possible while providing all the necessary information. The target audience included business and finance teams of Jio's internal businesses. The BI dashboard was a new change for them and in order to ensure a seamless transition, it was important to maintain a clear and concise design language.

Design Solution

I carefully studied various other BI dashboards and JioPay's design system. I learnt how the users like to consume transactional data that is dense and complex in nature. All of JioPay's transaction data could be filtered with 10+ different paramters and each combination would result in an entirely new dashboard. I introduced the concept of views that would help users save each combination of the filter parameters and consume the data for it with ease. I also prefilled the views section with commonly used date filters like quarterly views, monthly views and yearly views.

Another key element in my design was the provision for users to customise the report that they would download from the dashboard. Instead of simply converting the dashboard view into a PDF, I provided different customisation features for the report. This would help users generate specific reports for complex requirements and save report customisations as templates as well.

Outcomes

The BI dashboard garnered positive feedback from the UX team at JioPay, who praised its user-friendly interface and the clarity of presented data. Additionally, I cultivated a thorough understanding of designing data-heavy applications and catering to B2B users.
