This case study captures the process involved in designing a mobile app for a longevity based health-tech app called Mito Health, as a personal project. It highlights the key decisions made to enhance the current user journey on their web application.

Challenges

The key challenges included educating users about various longevity based tests without overloading them with information, converting text-heavy content into visuals, establishing trust and safety for users to share their health data and personalising app experience for each user.

Design Solution

I interviewed potential users who are focused on longevity and are interested in bio-hacking their health. This helped me identify their expectations from the app and ascertain their inhibitions to use the app. I conducted a design audit of Mito's web application and studied their charter to understand how we can bridge the gap between where we are and where we want to be. I, then, identified important metrics and the respective flows that are necessary to achieve a successful aha moment for users. Finally, I mapped different stages of the user journey to a specific product flow

  • user activation - onboarding

  • user engagement - booking tests and taking the personal assessment

  • user satisfaction - completing the tests

  • user retention - receiving a personalised health plan

  • user advocacy - referring friends and family

My key suggestions to their current user journey were

  • dedicating significant real estate on the screen to convey the importance and benefits of their Flagship lifetime membership

  • suggesting add on tests and scans after the user has subscribed to the Flagship membership

  • converting text-heavy content like test details and health plans into interactive visuals with minimum text

  • embedding personalised information based on user's personal assessment to increase engagement

  • providing specific meal and workout plans in the personalised health plan

  • finally, introducing a referral flow that would increase user advocacy

Outcomes

This project turned out to be a huge learning curve in my product design journey. It was the perfect project to test my technical, business and design skills for a given problem statement. I learnt how to refine my designs based on product and growth metrics and introduce elements that are cogent with technical specifications.
